Slimming Down for June!

EM Health Tip #2:

You’ve probably heard this from so many people, “Keep a water bottle with you at all times!” But we are going to say it again because it is some SOUND advice!

Jamie and I live in Arizona and Arizona's scorching summer sun can be brutal! So staying hydrated is crucial. But no matter where you live, hydration is key to beating summer heat, reducing body aches and pains, losing body fat , preventing headaches, keeping your body running at its best and so much more. Here are some tips to keep you cool and refreshed all season long:

  • Hydrate Before You Get Thirsty 😰: Don't wait until you feel parched to start drinking water. Our thirst response can be dulled, especially with age, so aim to sip on water throughout the day, even if you don't feel like it.

  • Carry a Refillable Bottle 💧: Invest in a reusable water bottle you love and carry it with you wherever you go. This makes it easy to take frequent sips and stay topped up.

  • Flavor Up Your Water  🥒🍋🍃: Plain water can get boring sometimes. Add slices of cucumber, lemon, or other fruits for a refreshing twist. You can also try sugar-free and Sucralose-free water flavorings or sparkling water for variety.

  • Eat Water-Rich Foods 🍉: Many fruits and vegetables are packed with water, which can contribute to daily intake. Think watermelon , cucumber , celery , tomatoes , and leafy greens .

  • Monitor Your Urine Color 💛: Your urine is a good indicator of hydration levels. Ideally, it should be a light yellow color. Darker yellow urine suggests dehydration.

  • Be Wary of Dehydrating Drinks ☕️ : While it's tempting to grab a sugary soda or caffeinated drink, these can actually dehydrate you further. Limit sugary drinks and opt for water or unsweetened iced tea instead.

  • Adjust Based on Activity Level ️‍⛹️‍♀️: If you're spending time outdoors exercising ‍or hiking , you'll need to drink even more water than usual. Aim for 12 ounces every 30 minutes during strenuous activity.

  • Seek Shade and Air Conditioning ❄️ : Avoid spending too much time in direct sunlight ☀️ during the hottest part of the day. Take breaks in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.

By following these tips, you can stay hydrated and enjoy all that summer has to offer!
