🤯How Does Mindset Affect Your Health

Stop wasting your time on the treadmill!

This week we are talking about enhancing your fat loss by incorporating HIIT style workouts, high intensity interval training. To view the benefits of adding as little as 10 mins of HIIT training, check out Monday’s Newsletter!

I hear it over and over again…”I’m running on the treadmill and I’m not losing weight! Why?” First of all, we are meant to walk and run. Walking and running are GREAT for our cardiac health, however they don’t change our bodies the way you might expect.

To lose actual body fat, our bodies need to be challenged and muscle needs to be used. That’s why strength training and HIIT style workouts have time and time again proven to deliver more results…and results that last! PLUS, the added muscle not only helps you maintain your results longer but it also helps your body age better so that you can continue doing activities of daily living with ease.

So add walking or running as a nice endurance boost for your heart, but don’t use it as your fat loss technique. For that do some body weight and weighted exercises.

And…you know I’m going to say it…increase your protein!

How Does Mindset Affect Your Health

  1. Stress Response: Your mindset can significantly influence how you perceive and respond to stress. A positive mindset characterized by optimism and resilience can help buffer the body's stress response. Conversely, a negative mindset marked by pessimism and chronic stress can contribute to the release of stress hormones like cortisol, which, over time, can lead to various health issues such as high blood pressure, weakened immune function, and increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

  2. Immune Function: Research suggests that a positive mindset can bolster immune function. Studies have found that individuals with a positive outlook tend to have stronger immune systems, better wound healing, and lower rates of infectious diseases. On the other hand, a negative mindset, particularly one marked by chronic stress or pessimism, can weaken the immune system's ability to fight off illnesses and infections, making individuals more susceptible to health issues.

  3. Pain Perception: Mindset can also influence how individuals perceive and cope with pain. Studies have shown that individuals with a positive mindset tend to experience less pain and discomfort compared to those with a negative mindset. Additionally, practices such as mindfulness and positive visualization have been found to help alleviate pain by modulating the brain's perception of pain signals and promoting relaxation.

  4. Health Behaviors: Your mindset can impact the health behaviors you engage in on a daily basis. For example, individuals with a growth mindset are more likely to adopt healthy habits such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, adequate sleep, and stress management techniques. Conversely, individuals with a fixed mindset may be more prone to negative health behaviors such as sedentary lifestyle, poor dietary choices, and substance abuse, which can have detrimental effects on overall health and well-being.

  5. Longevity: Emerging research suggests that mindset may play a role in longevity and overall health span. Studies have found that individuals with a positive outlook on life tend to live longer and experience better health outcomes compared to those with a more negative outlook. Factors such as optimism, resilience, and a sense of purpose have been associated with reduced risk of chronic diseases, improved cardiovascular health, and enhanced overall quality of life in older adults.

These points highlight the intricate connection between mindset and health, emphasizing the importance of cultivating a positive mindset for promoting overall well-being and longevity.
