Veterans Day

Beale AFB-Based her from 80-83, 87-94(Retirment)

As an Air Force brat, Veteran's Day holds deep significance for me and my family. It's not just a day on the calendar; it's a reflection of our lives intertwined with military service. My wife, too, is part of a military legacy. Her mother served in the US Navy, and her father retired from the Navy, bringing a unique perspective to our family. Moreover, my closest friend, Lester, shares a military connection as his father proudly served in the Air Force.

RAF Alconbury England-Base here from 75-78, and 83-86.

And then there's my dear friend Lisa who is a Marine wife, and her husband is a dedicated fighter pilot nearing retirement. Our shared experiences in the military community have created bonds that run deep and are emblematic of the support and camaraderie that thrives in military families.

Myrtle Beach AFB-Based here from 86-87

Growing up in a military environment is a singular experience, one that is difficult to compare to any other. For nearly a decade of my formative years, I lived away from what many would call "home." Six years were spent in the vibrant landscape of England, one year in the picturesque scenery of Idaho, and two years in the charming state of South Carolina. These diverse locales, each with their unique cultural and geographic attributes, have shaped me in profound ways, and I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything in the world.

Veteran's Day is not just a day to honor the sacrifices of our brave servicemen and women; it's a day to reflect on the rich tapestry of experiences, friendships, and bonds forged within the military community. It's a day to express our gratitude for the unwavering dedication and resilience that defines the lives of those who serve and their families. It's a day to stand together, celebrate our shared heritage, and honor the legacy of military service that has touched each of our lives in unique and profound ways.

Health on the Go

During the holidays, it can be challenging to resist all the delicious sweet treats. However, I have a helpful health tip for you to lower your sugar intake during this festive season. Instead of reaching for sugary desserts, try incorporating naturally sweet foods into your meals and snacks.

Here's an idea: include more fruits like berries, oranges, or apples in your diet. They provide natural sugars along with essential nutrients, fiber, and antioxidants that are beneficial for your health. Additionally, you can satisfy your sweet tooth with healthier alternatives, such as dark chocolate with a high percentage of cocoa or homemade treats using natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup in moderation. These tips will not only help you cut down on excess sugar but also make your holiday season healthier and more enjoyable.

Another tip: INCREASE PROTEIN! When we increase protein, we are less likely to crave sweet or carby foods. So get extra protein today! Your body will thank you. Enjoy!
