Spain-Part V

So, here we are, lost in the abyss of holiday travel chaos. I decided to play hero and sent out a beacon of guidance via email, pinpointing the exact Holiday Inn sanctuary for our weary souls. Cal and I settled into our hotel, expecting Ryan and Peter to burst through the doors any moment after their French escapade. But, alas, crickets.

With no sign of our comrades, Cal and I figured it was dinner time. Brandon was apparently scheduled for a grand entrance the next morning. Morning arrives, and the hotel lobby is still a deserted island. We twiddle our thumbs, waiting for a sign of life. Zilch. Tomorrow's departure looms, and we've mastered the art of hotel lounging.

Enough of this idle existence, it's pub o'clock. Cal and I embark on a lively evening, leaving behind the mystery of our missing amigos.

The sun rises, and we brace for our flight to SFO, secretly hoping for a surprise reunion. Instead, we're met with disappointment. That is until Brandon storms down the corridor, sporting a thoroughly disgruntled expression. Turns out, he's been airport-hopping for three days, funding his survival with impromptu massage sessions. Classic Brandon move – resourceful and, dare I say, entrepreneurial?

Ryan and Peter remain elusive, possibly teleporting back to San Diego. Boarding commences, and fate hands me a choice: the last business-class seat. I contemplate sacrificing my comfort for the greater good but alas, the airline gods decree, "Nope, it's you or the next victim." Cal, being the noble sidekick with cash to spare, decides to stick with Brandon for the next flight.

As I bid them adieu, the gate agent throws a curveball – there's one more seat, and Cal sprints onto the plane. Panic sets in. Ten hours of airborne anxiety commence, with my thoughts fixated on Brandon navigating the world with no info and no cash. The saga continues, and I'm left pondering the whereabouts of the elusive Ryan and Peter. The adventures of non-rev travel, where the only thing more unpredictable than the flights is the company you keep.

Health on the Go

Want to have your pie and eat it too??? Making Thanksgiving healthier is a great idea this season! Here are a few tips to help you achieve a healthier Thanksgiving without sacrificing flavor:

1. Incorporate more vegetables: Prepare a variety of colorful vegetables, such as roasted Brussels sprouts, steamed green beans, or a mixed vegetable medley. These options are rich in nutrients and can be a healthy addition to your meal.

2. Load up on lean proteins: Opt for turkey breast and/or dark meat, both are great options for your muscle and hormone recovery and balance! You can also consider including other lean protein options, such as grilled chicken or baked fish, to provide a healthy spin on the traditional turkey!

3. Add some quinoa: Consider adding quinoa to your side dishes or main course! It is a great protein source and is very versatile (and gluten-free!). Quinoa is a nutritious powerhouse and superfood due to its high nutritional content that also aids in feeling fuller longer.

4. Reduce added sugars: Limit the amount of added sugars in your recipes. For example, use natural sweeteners like cinnamon, nutmeg, or vanilla extract instead of excessive amounts of sugar. Also, try to choose desserts that are naturally sweetened, like fruit-based treats. 5. Be mindful of portion sizes: Encourage your guests to enjoy smaller portions and listen to their bodies' cues of fullness. This way, everyone can savor the flavors of the meal without overeating. GOLDEN RULE: wait 30 mins before going back for another helping to see if you are really still hungry (or if you just needed time for the food to reach your stomach!).

6. Offer healthier dessert options: Instead of high-calorie pies and cakes, consider serving healthier desserts like fruit salads, baked apples with cinnamon, or a yogurt parfait with fresh berries.

Remember, making small changes can add up to a healthier Thanksgiving meal without compromising on taste and enjoyment. Small changes (good or bad) add up for our overall health. Let's all be thankful for these amazing bodies we have that do so much for us! Enjoy and have a wonderful (and healthy) holiday!
